Dal Vaticano a San Pietroburgo. Riproduzioni musive del mosaico delle Terme di Otricoli del Museo Pio-Clementino

The article focuses on the story of two 19th-century mosaics held in St. Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum, that are interesting copies of the ancient pavement mosaic from Otricoli, now in the Sala Rotonda of the Vatican Museums. These copies can be ascribed to Roman mosaicist Michelangelo Barberi with his Russian students. This text underlines at first the complete restoration process of the original Otricoli mosaic in the 18th century, then leads to the general presentation of the work of Michelangelo Barberi and the relation between roman mosaicists of the 19th century and contemporary Russian culture.
